Friday Handshake Report: Personal Branding

Personal Branding?

I know what you are thinking or that face you just made; because I have thought or made that face too.

"Personal Branding [insert scoff] who do I think I am? A Kardashian?"
"Personal Branding - Really? I think I am just fine as I am."
"Personal Branding - What would my colleagues think? [insert nuts sign]
"Personal Branding - I am not a young'un who is gonna be the next YouTube Star!"

Okay, all jokes aside. What if we thought about personal branding like this?

In 1997, Tom Peters
wrote for FastCompany, “It’s a brand new world.” He continued, “We are CEOs of our own companies: Me Inc. To be in business today, our most important job is to be head marketer for the brand called You.”

A personal brand when it comes down to it - is someone knowing your name.

Now when you apply that to all the 'personalization tips' we read when it comes to digital marketing - harumph. Well, that just makes sense. If you want someone to open an email from you - you gotta get your name known. Or read a blog...or a tweet..or a post...

If you were out becoming the next YouTube Star...we will forgive you for missing the latest on the 21 Handshake blog:
