Anyone who knows 21 Handshake owner, Isaac, knows that he constantly has 100 ideas and thoughts running through his brain at all times. And while we admire his excitement and creativity, finding a productive way to channel it has been a challenge!
This blog is a result of that. Every Friday Isaac will be sharing insight and lessons about owning a business and working in the digital marketing space. For now we're calling it "Isaac's 21 Thought's" because he usually has that many (and more!) rolling around his brain at all times. This format may change as we get him to document more and more of his consciousness.
Thoughts for the week of 12/1/17- 12/8/17
1. Life is Never Simple
Easy choices, hard life; hard choices, easy life.
2. Get Smarter About How Your Company Spends Money
Pricing strategy should be a monthly decision in your organization... split test, split test, split test. Most companies leave money on the table.
3. Don't Let Someone Else Choose Your Path
Thanks to Greg Illig, my boss at 22 shared with me a very valuable piece of advice that’s help shape my career, business, and approach to things... “You have two choices: Create your own plan and schedule or someone else will do it for you”
4. Something Is Always Better than Nothing
Wrong plan accompanied by action is better than stationary pondering. Life is a balance of strategy and execution and no one bats 1000. Be flexible in your approach and deliberate with your goals.
5. The Best Time of Year
December is the best month of the year... its a proven science, don’t question it.
6. Be the Solution
It’s hard to find someone who ISN'T starving for creative solutions to get them what they want.
7. Whiners Aren't Winners
If you don’t like the game that’s being played... don’t complain; change the game.
8. No Offense
I call it “Christmas” and not the “holidays”. I mean no disrespect to anyone who doesn’t support Christmas, I just love it.
9. A Good Example of Creative Genius
Stranger Things on Netflix is purely brilliant... they took pieces of our past and creatively placed them together. Have fun with your next TV binge, you’re welcome.
10. There is Beauty in Simplicity
I’ve heard most recently that really, really resonated with me from Tim Ferriss. He was talking about getting through difficult projects, building systems, etc. He said, “if this were to look simple, what would it look like?"
11. Another Good One
"Your excuses will never be as interesting as the story of how you got it done." - Chris Brogan
12. Don't Get in Your Own Way of Success
Many people are their own roadblock to success. If you can be self aware enough to recognize this, you will find it easier to overcome. Let your success be your drive and do everything you can to get there. No excuses.
13. Adapt, Adapt, Adapt
Companies who are stuck doing the same things because "it's worked for years" are going to lose to their competitors who are always adapting. The world is changing all the time. Don't get left in the dust.
14. Proactive vs. Reactive
If you're always reacting, you are never getting ahead of your competition. Being proactive is more work but at least you are ready for anything and have the ability to grow your business. Keep this as a general mindset and you will find yourself less stressed.
15. Just DO.
This is something I find myself constantly having to tell people I mentor, as well as clients. Everyone is scared to try things that they aren't 100% sure how it will work. Sometimes it's just best to jump in the deep end and figure out how to swim.
16. Change = Good
Change is uncomfortable. But growth happens the most when you live in that uncomfortable space. Your employees may push back when things are changing but it is usually for the better. Get them to understand this and you'll find organizational wide change easier.
17. Ooooh Bitcoin. (Perspective from our Visual Content Manager who explains it best)
As this cryptocurrency is becoming more understood, more mainstream, and more stores and companies are actually accepting it as a form of payment, its value is of course increasing.
18. Two Side to This "Coin"
On the flip side of that a lot of people think that it’s currently a bubble. Because it’s still a lot of perceived value at this point. Although stores are starting to accept it, it’s still a long way from becoming a main form of payment for people.
19. Competition in Cryptocurrency
20. More Money = Better Results
While this may be obvious, it's something I find myself constantly having to explain. In 2018, if you want to have a successful marketing strategy, you are going to have to increase your marketing budget.
21. Marketing is evolving
You can no longer get away with sharing someone else's articles or simple sharing info and telling people to pay attention. No, you need to get peoples attention first and to promote your product/service in a way that is entertaining is going to cost you money.
