Anyone who knows 21 Handshake owner, Isaac, knows that he constantly has 100 ideas and thoughts running through his brain at all times. And while we admire his excitement and creativity, finding a productive way to channel it has been a challenge!
This blog is a result of that. Every Friday Isaac will be sharing insight and lessons about owning a business and working in the digital marketing space. For now we're calling it "Isaac's 21 Thought's" because he usually has that many (and more!) rolling around his brain at all times. This format may change as we get him to document more and more of his consciousness.
Thoughts for the week of 11/25/17- 12/1/17
1. The Holiday Season Has Officially Begun
This is the first year online sales exceed offline sales for the holiday season. This could mean we'll be seeing big changes in how holiday sales run next year.
2. Content is STILL King
Apple is increasing their content creation budget from 1 billion to 4.2 billion over the next few years.
3. Identifying Your team's Strengths
Learn the personality types of your people. Simply observing them will tell you what they do and understanding who they are will help you understand why they do it.
4. There is Value in Social Proof
Social proof is becoming even more important. A business page with 38 likes is hard for a consumer to trust no matter how good their product is.
5. When You Travel as Much as I Do, It's the Little Things
Kudos to Detroit Airport. They now have a Qdoba in the terminal 🙌🏼
6. Dear Apple,
I’d pay double for an iPhone that had a battery would last for 24 straight hours of full us. Can we make this happen?
7. Play Into Human Behavior
People spend money irrationally. Our business plan needs to include logic but will be driven by an emotional connection you create with the market you’re trying to serve.
8. Think about it. You Know It's True.
The quickest way to become a commodity is to fail at incorporating emotion
9. Consider Incorporating Influencer Marketing
Influencer marketing is your opportunity with a local Lebron.
10. What If We Could Document Conversations? How Could This Benefit My Business?
I’m looking at a system called Smarsh for documenting conversations because there is value in everyday conversations. Every company struggles with knowledge living in one or a few people's head. What if we could document that?
11. Reading is Good for You
Reading a book called Deep Work at the moment. It’s amazing how our current lifestyles rob us of the opportunity to truly focus.
12. Two big things I’ve learned from Tim Ferriss’s tribe of mentors:
First, most successful people have a morning routine that they stick to. It’s a way to get control of your day instead of the day controlling you. And second, creatives need 2-4 hours of blocked off time to simply create with zero interruptions.
13. Millennials + Baby Boomers = Good Business
If your younger talent doesn’t have access to upper level management, you’re shooting yourself in the foot.
14. Giving a Shit Will Get You Far
The younger generation doesn't do work just to wait around and see if you’ll pay attention to them and their career path in 5 years…
15. Important Aspect of Company Culture
A safe culture goes beyond the obvious (ex. sexual harassment)… it also includes things like, “Can I speak my mind? Can I be me? Am I accepted?”.
16. Work Smarter
A company that holds meetings all day is lazy. There is hardly any reason for that and usually ends up wasting valuable hours they could be getting things done.
17. How to Master the Pitch
When explaining a new idea, start with what they know and draw a correlation. Be relatable and allow them to make the connection.
18. Cue Spontaneous Thought:
I’m so excited to see Tiger Woods play golf again, if I had a tail… it’d be wagging
19. Need a Reading Recommendation?
Cognitive Biases explain human behavior extremely well. It is something I would recommend checking out.
20. You May Not Like Her But You Could Learn a Few Things...
21. Word of Mouth Will Always Show Results
A great place to start when growing a business is anything and everything that will create word of mouth opportunities.
